Indian Creek Schooling

We had a blast at Indian Creek Farm with the cross country schooling. Had a chance to practice our stuff on the banks, jumps and the water. A real mixed group went, but everyone came home with smiles at what they've accomplished.

Clinic

Deb and Pam (Apollo and Beamer) had a great opportunity to ride with Loma Fowler Thursday and Friday. They both feel they learned a bunch and enjoyed Ms. Fowler's teaching style. Very positive!

Land sold

Okay, everyone, you knew it was coming... We sold 24 acres on the west end of the property. It will close on Oct. 4. The good news is, we will be allowed to ride still on it for the time being. The new owners are graciously letting us continue to enjoy it SO no falling off anyone!

Great Honor

One of our adult students received a great honor recently. Janet Sheppard was awarded Kendall's Teacher of the Year with the ExCEL Golden Apple award which recognizes top educators in area public schools. Way to go Janet!! And she's a fun student on the horse as well.

Webster

Our favorite dog, Webster, had a really bad seizure Sunday. Many people have seen him do this before, but this episode lasted far too long. So off to the vet he goes. He is to start medications. SO, in order for us to find just the right dose, we'd like to hear it if you see Webster have another seizure. And if you've got the presence of mind, to time it to see how long it lasts. That will help us find just the right amount of medication to give him. We would all like our Webster to live a long long life!

wow

All the old-timers will remember Mallori - grown up and gone to college now. She's just recently joined the polo club at Texas A&M. How fun is that?

Rain again

It's Sunday morning and it's drizzling out there. Not a big deal as far as riding goes, but there's a storm just south of here that is huge. And it's heading this way. Looks like riding for the next couple of days is not gonna happen. Blame it on the hurricane in the Pacific, Lane and a cold front (yipee!) from the north all converging here.

Legends

Legends moves in. This is a therapy riding program that is run by Leslie. She's moving her operation to Kinswood. You'll find some activity around the old barns soon, as she bring in her therapy horses. Ceasar the Belgian, Frank the Andulsian, Ollie the Percheron and an Arab. Stop by when you have a moment and take a look at what she's doing - maybe you'll even be interested as a volunteer?

Drying up

Hey, guys,
It's drying up now. We had no rain after all yesterday. We will be good to go this evening for lessons and riding in general.

New Comers

Here to report on the new comers. Well, I'm a bit late on this... We've got in Chase, owned by Cheryl. Beautiful black horse. And Cheryl will be a fun addition to the barn. And Billy came in. A big good looking warmblood mare that so far has a gentle disposition. This is Janet's new horse, and we wish only the best in this new venture.
A couple of ex race horses arrived. The gray one, Bubba, had a couple rides and sold to Mary. She's in love, he is a beautiful gray!! And Charlie, a big dark bay appendix. We haven't had time or dry ground to work this guy any yet, but so far shows a gentle demeanor.
And today comes in Henry.

Condolences

Our hearts go out to Kim. Last night Gunner passed away. Bad colic led to the discovery of a twisted gut. Lots of pain for Gunner and not much hope of recovery for a normal life. So she made the painful decision to put him down. Hard night, hard choice, but the right one for Gunner.
Prayers to Kim.

Rain!

Monday's rain left the grounds pretty soggy. With rain forecasted thru Tuesday, I don't think any lessons are happening on Tuesday. AGAIN! You Tuesday guys are just plain out of luck lately. We are grateful for the rain, but really... Tuesday again?

Updates

Julie did not come back last week as expected. She just wasn't ready yet. But this week she plans to return for real. She's been up and about so much more now, ready to go!
We have a couple takers to the schooling day at Indian Creek. That sounds like a great opportunity to school some cross country. On such a fantastic course!
Big dressage show at the Rose Palace this past weekend. Some beautiful rides happened, hope you got to see them. And it's always good to see the well turned out horses of different breeds. The Richard Howards birthday goings on at the show was fun.
We've been having some rain now and then. It only really seems to affect the Tuesday lessons tho. Everyone else has been riding and the dust factor has been gone. Such a relief that is. Looks like the weather pattern in changing, so be aware of the rain chances if you come to ride.

Recoveries

Maddie was back at her lesson this past week - none the worse for wear from her bout with heat exhaustion.
Julie will be returning late this coming week to give some lessons. She's feeling better as well, altho still not able to lift heavy things. Be good to her guys, don't make her work too hard! But she's going a little stir crazy so is ready to come back to work.
And one more... Lily! She's back to work now. Since she had her caps pulled and teeth done she's been a much happier girl. But still not sweating proper so we are working on that. She's on a special supplement and.. a beer a day. It's a diet she likes!

End of summer?

Dog days of summer almost over guys. We had a short rainshower this past Tuesday and it was a welcome relief. No dust Wednesday! It was short lived, but we loved it. Weather forecasters say it's gonna be somewhat cooler now, just UNDER 100 degrees for a change. And rain chances are better than they've been in ages.
Fall "to do" calendars are coming out. Dressage schooling show dates set, the big dressage show at the Rose Palace next weekend and a cross country schooling day at Indian Creek just came up. Time to get to work if you want to do any of these things.
