Rains again
Rain in the pre-early Saturday morning hours dumped more than an inch of rain. No riding today - arenas and grounds are muddy and wet. With the forecast looking good, Sunday looks like it will be back to normal.
Also - Colonel Russell's show is once again cancelled. They are having the worst luck! No reschedule this time, it's a bust.
Finally Diana got to go to a USEA recognized horse trials. She's been trying to take Polo for some time now, but something always got in the way. The first day she and Polo competed in dressage and cross country. They came out with great scores and in first place after both phases. Second day was stadium jumping. Both Diana and Polo a little tired after the first day and knocked down 2 rails. That moved them down to 6th place.
You would not believe how much better the jump arena looks! Everyone that pitched in and helped pick up rocks gets a huge THANK YOU! It's an amazing difference.
The pizza was enjoyed by the early comers, the drinks enjoyed throughout the day. We were lucky to have clouds most of the day, so sunburn wasn't an issue. It was fun for everyone to meet people they don't usually see - and gab with friends. Again, a big THANKS to all the participating hands.
Col. Russell's show Saturday April 22nd was cancelled - too wet from the rain. They have rescheduled for April 29th. That works out for us even better, so we plan on doing it then.
Thursday night finally let loose some rain. Most of you probably woke up to some bad thunder and lightning and lots of rain. No hail here, as in many places, thankfully. But arenas were soggy Friday and horses stayed in for the day. We plan to go back to the usual schedule on Saturday - so see ya then!
This time for the Liberty Hill Schooling Dressage show we had 8 horse/riders going to compete. Think EVERYONE came home with a ribbon! Well done! Our First Level riders took home only blues and reds. Training level riders took home ribbons from all the colors! And the Intro riders not only garnered ribbons, but we were all pleased that the first timers didn't get nervous/wild/out of hand or any of that. What a pleasant (but hot!) day it was.
Had horses leaving this week. Larson, Woody, Lina and Pegasus were taken to their new home Friday. They are living in the area, but the owners now have them on their property. Happy about that too! Arriving today is Ritzy, a cute bay quarter horse mare. She's content to have some company. Hondo is installed in the barn now, moved in from the quarantine pen. He's happy to have the company too.
Like those rocks in the jump arena?? Neither does anyone else! Julie's organizing a work day to pick up rocks and make the arena a nicer place to ride. Scheduled for May 7th at 11AM. Volunteers will be put into a drawing for a free lessson. We'll have food/drinks available. And lots of people to gab with! Sign up sheets going up shortly... keep the date in mind!
We've been busy taking in new horses again. First came "Hondo" - he's in the quarantine pen. Wendy and her kids are keeping him for a month's trial to see if he works out for them. Great opportunity! But so far, I see NO reason to NOT keep this gem of a horse. Today came in Sassy, a beautiful bay paint mare. She has hives!! so is on a restricted diet for the time. Must figure out what's giving her the hives! We welcome these newcomers and their "people". More riding buddies!
Day 2 of the dressage show brought a whole new set of issues to deal with. Apollo grouchy, he was ready to go home and be done with this. Deb piloted him thru the tests regardless (he's got to get over that!) and did a nice job. Beamer came out MUCH more relaxed and focused on Pam's riding. Their tests were a huge improvement over the previous day. This day's rides were judged by a different and much tougher judge. Scores were lots lower so it was disappointing from that end of it. But all in all, the entire show deems a success and has riders ready to go for the next one. Saw Alison at the show too - she says "hi" to everyone at Kinswood!
First day of the dressage show has been a success. Deb and Apollo did a couple of well ridden tests, steady and relaxed and quite good. Earned over 63%, blue ribbon and qualifying scores. Pam and Beamer had a difficult first test as Beamer's tension got the best of him. Pam rode the hardest ride ever! But the second test was MUCH improved and more like Beamer's old self. Watch for tomorrow's rides. . . Things should only get better!
