Worming

2009 Healthy Horse Worming Program
Recently, I attended an equine nutrition conference where new research-based information on worming techniques was discussed. Daily worming was strongly discouraged, as every-day exposure to a toxin weakens immunity.
A two-month, three-way rotational schedule was recommended.

Why should we be concerned about parasites?

Colic
Diarrhea
Enteritis
Weight loss
Slow shedding coat
Poor performance
Interferes with optimal digestion

Thanks for your hard work on putting the board together. I for one will be using that info to update Apollo"s worming schedule. I sure hope everyone else gets on board to start the new year with healthy horses.

Thanks again,
Deb and Apollo

I agree!!! Thanks Debbie. As someone who has dealt with major colic on two horses and found out that a strong immune system is a major factor in preventing colic, I hope that everyone makes the commitment to their horse to keep them on a consistent worming schedule. Believe me, worm medicine is cheap compare to vet bills for colic!
